Go game records: upload an SGF, get diagrams you can print and replay

Drop in an SGF file and say “four diagrams a page, 30 moves each”. docraft typesets a PDF with the game info in a table under the title, the game split into numbered diagrams, and the SGF comments next to each diagram.

What it does

  • Game info as a table

Players and ranks, komi, rules, result, date and event are read from the SGF and set in a table under the title. Both “W+R” and older written results are understood.

  • Diagrams per page, moves per diagram

One or two diagrams a page in a single column; 4, 6, 8 or 12 in two columns. You choose how many moves go in each diagram, evenly or not. Boards on a page are the same size.

  • Drawn the way books do it

Captured stones come off the board; a stone played where a ko or capture happened is noted under the diagram as “N = M”. A final position can close the record.

  • Old files and collections

Older Chinese SGF files in GBK encoding come through without garbled text, and an SGF holding several games can be set game by game as a collection.

How it works

  1. 1

Upload the SGF and say how many diagrams per page and moves per diagram; if you don’t, docraft asks first.

  2. 2

docraft typesets it and lists what you should check.

  3. 3

Point at the page to change things, such as “end diagram 3 at move 90”, then export the PDF and print.

Try saying

“Here is my game from yesterday. Four diagrams a page, 30 moves each, and finish with the final position.”

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know Typst or LaTeX?

No. Describe what you want in plain words; the template draws the boards, move numbers and captures. You can still edit the source in the workspace if you like.

Which file formats are supported?

SGF, including files that hold several games; diagrams follow the main line. UTF-8 and GBK encodings both work. For other formats, export to SGF from your Go software first.

Will docraft write the commentary?

Comments in the SGF are set exactly as written. docraft doesn’t judge moves on its own; give it your points and it sets them in.

Can I use it on the free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes 300 points a month (about 18 new documents), and exported PDFs carry a watermark; paid plans have no watermark.
