Annotations

Write annotations on the page, send several to the agent at once, review its replies, and understand each status, from Open to Resolved.

Updated

An annotation is a comment pinned to a place on the page: an element, a passage or an area. It is how you tell the agent “change this, here”. Annotations keep their place as the document changes from version to version.

Write an annotation

Select something on the page and choose Annotate (or use the Annotate tool, C), write what should change and save it with Ctrl+Enter. Be specific about the result you want: “split this step into two lines and show the chain rule” works better than “unclear”.

You can write annotations while the agent is working. If the place you pointed at disappears in that turn, the annotation is marked Detached rather than lost.

Send them to the agent

Annotations wait in the Annotations tab until you send them, so you can collect several first. At the bottom of the tab, add an optional overall note and press Process N open annotations →. The agent works through them one by one, and each card shows In progress meanwhile.

For a single quick fix, Let the agent fix in the selection bar writes the annotation and starts a turn immediately.

Review the replies

When the agent is done, it writes back on each annotation what it changed (or why it couldn’t), and the card moves to To review:

  • View changes shows what changed on the page.
  • Accept resolves the annotation.
  • Revise… sends it back with a reply saying what else should change.

If the agent needs more information it asks on the card (Needs your answer); reply there and the annotation goes back to Open.

Statuses

Status Meaning
Open Waiting to be sent to the agent
In progress The agent is working on it
To review The agent replied; accept it or ask again
Needs your answer The agent asked a question on the card
Resolved Accepted, or marked as resolved by hand
Detached The place it pointed to no longer exists

A detached annotation keeps its original text. Use Re-anchor to pick a new place on the page, or delete it. If you fixed something yourself, open the card’s menu and choose Mark as resolved.

Find your way around

  • Click a card to scroll the page to its place, outlined in red; click an annotation on the page to find its card.
  • Use Filter (Open, To review, Resolved, All) and Sort (by position or by time).
  • J and K move to the next and previous annotation.

From the checklist

Marking a checklist item Wrong turns your reason into an annotation pinned to that item. Tick Fix now to send it to the agent right away.

Who can annotate

In a team space, owners, admins, members and commenters can annotate; viewers can only look. People you share a link with can annotate too if you allowed it and they are signed in. See Exporting and sharing.

If you undo a turn by restoring an earlier version, annotations the agent handled after that point go back to Open.
